Just as bad weather swept through the north-west the prior day, City blew United aside at the Etihad Stadium. It was a emphatic three-nil win for the City coach's side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their championship potential as they strengthened their place at the league summit.

Back-to-Back Defeats for United

This outcome signalled back-to-back Women's Super League setbacks for Skinner's side for the first time since spring 2024, leaving them a sizable gap off the league leaders with their trophy ambitions in serious doubt.

The Red Devils' ability to balance league and continental football with a thin roster has been a hotly discussed topic since they qualified for the UCL.
